Currently, the threat of COVID-19 in our community seems to be under control, allowing our community to start re-opening and UPHS – Bell to begin gradually resuming time-sensitive, non-urgent procedures. For some, this change is a welcome return to maintaining personal health and addressing medical issues. For others, this news may cause anxiety about safety. I’d like to address these concerns with the hope of relieving fears that might make people overly cautious about seeking care and treatment.

ISHPEMING — UPHS – Bell is proud to announce the addition of Riley Torreano, MD, to its Family Medicine Staff. Dr. Torreano grew up in Negaunee and has lived in the UP his entire life. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology/Physiology at Northern Michigan University before finishing his Doctor of Medicine at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. Dr. Torreano would finish his residency with the Marquette Family Medicine Program.

ISHPEMING — UP Health System — Bell is pleased to welcome Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr. Andrew Atkinson to the UPHS — Bell Women’s Health staff. Dr. Atkinson earned his Bachelors of Science at the University of Detroit-Mercy before completing medical school at the Saba University School of Medicine. He would finish his OB/GYN residency at Rutgers University/Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

UP Health System – Bell has been recognized by the March of Dimes for its work to give babies a healthier start in life. UP Health System – Bell earned the recognition after successfully reducing the number of elective inductions and cesarean deliveries performed before 39 completed weeks of pregnancy to less than one percent (1%). This is a tremendous accomplishment, and one that will give more babies the right start in life, the March of Dimes says.
